I have been dreaming of staging "The Forest Song" for almost 20 years, and finally, this world literature gem by Lesya Ukrainka will grace the stage of Theatre33! The language is magical, even if you do not understand Ukrainian - the combination of sounds itself conveys the rustling of leaves, the murmur of a stream and an enchanted virgin forest. Mystical Mavka is the very essence of the vital force of nature. The power of her love (although she does not have a soul like people), the depth of remorse and despair of Lukash, the laws of the forest, the laws of people - everything is mixed up in this lyrical drama, this magical fairy tale for adults. Of course it is all about love through the amazing dramaturgy of Lesya Ukrainka.
I love her plays with all my heart and nurture the plans to stage her existential "On the Field of Blood". But this season, we present the real Slavic fantasy: Rusalki, Zlydni, Kuts, Vodyanoy... People settled in the middle of the forest for only one summer, and then nature took its back.
I highly recommend watching this play with teenagers, lots of thoughts for fruitful discussions. The play is in Ukrainian with English subtitles.
While not all actors on stage speak Ukrainian in everyday life, their desire to not only understand this play and culture, but to share it with our audiences inspired them to commit enormous efforts to understand and memorize the text, polish pronunciation and capture the intonation to help me fulfill my dream.

Уже почти 20 лет я мечтаю поставить эту пьесу. И вот наконец-то! "Лісова пісня" Лесі Українки в Театре33. Волшебная речь, даже если не понимать украинский язык - само сочетание звуков передает шелест листьев, журчание ручья и зачарованный девственный лес. Мистическая Мавка - само олицетворение жизненной силы природы; сила ее любви(хотя она и не имеет души подобной людям); глубина раскаяния и отчаяния Лукаша; законы леса, законы людей - все перемешано в этой драме-феерии, этой волшебной сказке для взрослых. Ну и конечно это про любовь. Потрясающая драматургия Леси Украинки.
Люблю ее пьесы всей душой и все еще в планах поставить ее екзистенциальную "На полі крові". Ну а в этом сезоне - настоящее славянское фэнтези: Русалки, Злыдни, Куць, Водяной... Только на одно лето люди поселились среди леса, а потом природа взяла свое.
Очень рекомендую смотреть с подростками. Спектакль на украинском языке с английскими субтитрами.
Конечно не все актеры нашего театра говорят на украинском языке в быту, но настолько велико было желание проникнуться этой пьесой и культурой, которая всегда воспринимается полнее через язык, что они приложили огромные усилия к запоминанию текста, его правильному произношению и интонированию.
