About SOVA Theatre Studio
The mission of our team is to introduce and make the audience fall in love with the theater, to teach them to be friends, to love and to believe in goodness. Each performance, starting from the very idea, is imbued with love and care, faith and living energy. After all, each decoration and each doll is created originally for each performance by the hands of the actors and participants of the performances themselves. Each performance is an instructive story, a parable, an opportunity to fill the audience with faith, love and hope.
How did your company start, and what inspires the work you do?
Our theater was created over a long period of time and in small steps. By trial and error. At first, these were fairy tale readings for a narrow audience. Then it was the first failed performance. And then it was the "Moloko" festival in Odessa, which became a reference point. We had to rethink our actions and jump over ourselves to be worthy of the festival, to which many meters of the theater elite asked. Having received recognition from the public and judges, our theater was organized on a permanent basis.
In my work, I am certainly inspired by the viewer, for whom all this is done. The viewer is the best engine and the most honest critic. When everything works out, when you managed to touch the most secret sides of the human soul, then everything worked out, and you want to make yourself a new and new, bold challenge, in the form of new fairy tales, new images and new stories. And if everything did not go as you wanted, then this is an opportunity to see and correct your mistakes, to take bolder steps.
What kind of theater do you specialize in?
Basically, we specialize in puppet theater. But I like to use different types and theatrical techniques in my performances. And the more difficult the task is, the more interesting it is to solve it.
What show are you bringing to the festival, and why did you choose it?
We decided to bring a puppet show for children. Although, as practice has shown, it was interesting for adults too. Since we received most of the feedback from adult viewers. I am madly in love with this amazing kind story, and I would like to share this love with other people.
How would you describe this production in just a few words?
A fairy tale - a parable about finding oneself.
What should audiences expect from this performance?
We believe that after our performance the audience will be filled with positive and bright emotions, and perhaps, we hope for this, will become more self-confident and will be able to inspire others.
Is there anything unique or special about your approach to this production?
We use tablet puppets that play on par with the actors, often interacting with them.
Have there been any exciting or unexpected challenges during rehearsals?
The process of creation itself is always difficult for us. All our dolls and decorations are made by us. And this means that if we do not know how to do something, we must learn to do it. And since we were not born with such talents and did not learn to create dolls, we have to search for everything and learn everything from scratch, because each doll for each performance is individual and unique.
What’s something about this production that audiences might not know?
It's a secret. Every show should have a mystery, or intrigue, or a moment of surprise.
What are you most looking forward to about participating in the festival?
We want to evaluate our capabilities, gain valuable experience and an example from other groups and festival organizers. We hope that participation in the festival will become a huge support and incentive for further creativity.
Why do you think theater festivals are important for the arts community?
The festival unites people of different cultures, different types of art, introduces different theaters to each other. And it is also an opportunity to bring something new to the theatrical life of a certain city.
If someone has never seen your company’s work before, what should they know about you?
We are always honest on stage. We firmly believe in what we show, what we want to convey and what we want to teach our audience.
Where can people follow your work after the festival?
